All in all, soy is good for you. Soy contains omega-3 fatty acids, which can greatly benefit the body. It also can reduce your cholesterol, and has a high level of phytic acid which can act as an antioxidant (reducing cancer and diabetes). Also, some studies suggest that men should eat soy to protect themselves from getting prostate cancer. However, genistein, an isoflavone in soy, can block the formation of new blood vessels and can inhibit the regulation of cell growth, development, and survival.

Soy is also a versatile ingredient. You can find soy in many dairy products, like soymilk (chocolate is the best), cream cheese, and even ice cream. You can also use tofu, made out of soy bean curd, to imitate meat because it takes on the flavor of whatever you are cooking it with. Because of this, soy is also used as a meat filler in many schools and correctional facilities (less flavor, more healthy). So if you are enjoying a glass of soymilk or snacking on a handful of edamame, know you are making a healthy choice in your foods!

  1. Sam I agree with you! Chocolate soy milk is the best and I love edamame! I think that even though soy can have negative effects it can also have great health affects as well. You can't just look for the negatives. Soy has vitamins and minerals in it that are healthy for you!

  2. Geez Sam! You know a lot about soy. I never thought about soy that much, but i guess it is rather good for you. My dad tried going vegan (and failed) and he told me that soy is a good source of antioxidants like you had mentioned.
